“One hundred and fifty-one days before I turned 60, I sent Real Andrews two photos. One was me playing college ice hockey in the ECAC. The other was me, thirty pounds heavier. I said, ‘Coach , here’s my photo now. Can you turn this body into that body?’ He accepted the challenge without hesitation. What I didn’t expect was what that would actually look like. I’m on the East Coast. Real is in California. Every day for five months, he was up at 3 or 4 in the morning his time to send me my workout and my food directive. Not once in a while. Every day. Real is a beast. He stayed on top of me and never let me talk myself out of a session. I may not have hit it 100 percent — but I got to darn close and that’s a lot further than I ever would have gotten on my own. Tough love, real motivation, and genuine faith in someone. That’s what he gave me. Those five months changed me as a person, not just physically.
