You Don't Have to Have It All Figured Out to Come to Jesus

August 14, 20263 min read

Maybe you grew up in church and walked away.

Maybe you never set foot in one.

Maybe you believe in God but haven't talked to Him in years, except in the moments things fell apart.

Wherever you're starting from, here's the truth most people never tell you:

You don't have to clean yourself up before you come to Jesus. You don't have to fix your marriage, quit your habits, or get your life in order first.

You come as you are. He does the rest.

The Lie That Keeps Men Away

Most men who stay away from faith aren't rejecting God. They're rejecting the idea that they have to earn their way back.

They think: I've done too much. I've failed too many times. I'll get right with God once I clean up my act.

But that's backwards. Scripture doesn't say wait until you're ready. It says come now, as you are, and let God do the changing.

Jesus didn't spend His time with people who had it together. He spent it with fishermen, tax collectors, and men with rough pasts. The invitation was never "get worthy first." It was "follow Me."

What It Looks Like to Actually Follow

For the man who's already walking with God, following isn't a one-time decision. It's a daily one.

It's opening the Word before you open your phone. It's choosing obedience on the days it costs you something. It's letting God shape your marriage, your work, your temper, your habits -- not just the parts of life that are easy to hand over.

Discipleship isn't about becoming a different person overnight. It's about becoming a little more faithful today than you were yesterday.

Two Different Men, One Invitation

If you've never really started -- this is your starting line. Not a program. Not a checklist. Just a decision to stop running and start walking toward Him.

If you've been walking with God for years -- this is your reminder that the walk doesn't stop. There's always a next step of obedience, a next area of your life He's asking you to surrender.

Either way, the invitation is the same: come as you are, and let Him do what only He can do.

A Prayer for Wherever You're Standing

If you don't know where to start, start here.

Father, I don't have this figured out. Whether I'm just starting to seek You, or I've walked with You for years and drifted, I ask You to meet me where I am. Strip away the excuses, the pride, and the fear of not being ready. Teach me to follow You one day at a time. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Warrior Challenge

Today, take one honest step toward God -- not a perfect one, a real one. Open the Bible for five minutes. Say the prayer above out loud. Tell one person where you actually stand with your faith.

Don't wait until you feel ready. Readiness isn't the requirement. Obedience is.

Key Takeaways

  • You don't need to be "cleaned up" before coming to God -- He does the changing, not you.

  • Faith isn't a one-time decision; it's daily obedience.

  • Whether you're starting from zero or walking with God for decades, there's always a next step.

  • Come as you are. That's the whole invitation.

Have I not commanded you?

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
